CE Requirements for Nurses in Illinois

Illinois nurses (APN, RN, LPN) are required to earn the following continuing education (CE) credits.

LPN – 20 hours every 2 years
RN – 20 hours every 2 years
APN – 50 hours every 2 years

CE courses must advance professional skills and be applicable to practice area

The Illinois Nursing Board accepts online courses (independent study) if the programs are provided by an approved sponsor. The Board accepts programs from providers approved by another state’s board of nursing.
