Continuing Education for Tennessee Marriage and Family Therapists

CE requirements for marriage and family therapists (MFTs) in TN:
  • Ten (10) clock hours of continuing education each year
  • Three (3) hours must pertain to professional ethics
  • A maximum of five (5) hours can be earned online
  • Professionals who hold two (2) certificates and/or licenses regulated by the Tennessee Board for Professional Counselors, Marital and Family Therapists and Clinical Pastoral Therapists must complete fifteen (15) clock hours of CE every year.
  • Three (3) hours must pertain to professional ethics
  • A maximum of seven and one-half (7 ½) hours can be earned online.
  • Professionals who hold three (3) certificates and/or licenses must complete twenty (20) clock hours of continuing education every year.
  • Three (3) hours must pertain to professional ethics
  • A maximum of ten (10) hours can be earned online.

In each case, at least five (5) clock hours must be directly related to the practice of each profession for which the person is licensed or certified.

CE Approvals: The Board accepts courses offered by providers approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).
