Barbara Alexander, LCSW, BCD, president of On Good Authority, interviews Brandt Caudill, JD, LMSW, an attorney who has co-authored two books on legal/ethical issues for mental health professionals. Mr. Caudill discusses the problem of boundaries in custody evaluations, a major source of ethical complaints.

Author Bio

Subject matter expert:

Brandt Caudill, JD, LMSW, a Los Angeles lawyer, specializes in defending therapists in trouble. He has been an attorney since 1976, and licensed in California since 1979. He received his law degree from Georgetown University and his BA in psychology from Michigan State. He has written twenty-four articles and two books: the first, co-authored with Kenneth Pope, is entitled, California Law and Mental Health Professionals, published by the American Psychological Association; and his second book, with Larry Hedges, is Therapists at Risk, published by Aronson Press.

Barbara Alexander, LCSW, BCD, is a graduate of the Smith College School for Social Work and the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Program of the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis. President of the Illinois Society for Clinical Social Work for two terms, she co-chaired the 20th Anniversary Clinical Conference of the Clinical Social Work Federation, and chaired the Search Committee for President/Dean of the Institute for Clinical Social Work. After working for 13 years in child psychiatric settings and 30 years in private practice, she is now founder and president of On Good Authority, and an expert interviewer.
