Supporting the Grieving: Effective Grief Models & Interventions
Description
Providing care for clients who are grieving can be a struggle for many clinicians. A trained and experienced therapist can greatly influence the grieving process of a client. In this course, Tiffani Dilworth will explore diverse grief models and therapies, including the Companioning Model, Dual Process Model, Prolonged Grief Disorder Therapy, and several others. This training will provide clinicians with the knowledge and tools to make a grief-related diagnosis and a better understanding of diverse grief models to help guide treatment planning. Clinicians will walk away with grief-related coping skills and interventions to better support clients who are grieving. This workshop will empower and guide clinicians by providing a framework to understand how to effectively help clients manage the grieving process.
Asynchronous, distance learning. Non-interactive. Text format with recorded reading of the material.
Here are some of the possible limitations that could be inherent to the material, given its comprehensive nature:
Scope and Depth:
- Limited Time: A single course might not offer enough time to comprehensively cover all aspects of grief, such as complicated grief, disenfranchised grief (grief for a loss not socially recognized), and grief in different cultures.
- Focus on Theory over Practice: The course may focus heavily on theoretical frameworks of grief, neglecting practical skills development in areas like active listening, navigating difficult emotions, and facilitating healthy coping mechanisms.
Additional Considerations:
- Personal Biases: The instructor’s own experiences with loss could unconsciously influence the course content and delivery.
- Lack of Attention to Self-Care: The emotional intensity of grief work might be overlooked, potentially neglecting the importance of self-care for mental health professionals providing grief counseling.
