Suicidal clients are a difficult and challenging population in counseling. This article contains 25 practical, hands-on strategies for counselors to assist in their interactions with suicidal clients. The strategies are situated within a seven-step model for crisis intervention that is specifically tailored to suicidal clients.
Target audience: Psychologists, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, social workers, addiction counselors, nurses.

Darcy Haag Granello, PhD, LPCC-S, is a Professor of Counselor Education and Director of the Campus Suicide Prevention Program at The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH. She has published more than 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals and is co-author of three books, including "Suicide: An Essential Guide for Helping Professionals and Educators" and "Suicide, Self-injury and Violence in the Schools: Assessment, Prevention, and Intervention Strategies."
