Continuing education requirements for California Registered Nurses (RNs):
- 30 hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years
- Courses must be related to the scientific knowledge and/or technical skills required for the practice of nursing, or be related to direct and/or indirect patient/client care. For example, accepted course content may include courses in related areas, e.g. human sexuality; death, dying, and grief; therapeutic interpersonal relationship skills; pharmacology; and those related to specialty areas of nursing practice.
- The CA Board of Registered Nursing accepts courses completed online.
Continuing education requirements for CA LVNs and Psychiatric Technicians:
- 30 hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years
- The Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians accepts online courses offered by providers approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
