Continuing Education for Professional Counselors in Maine

CE requirements for ME professional counselors (LCPC, LPC, Pastoral Counselors):

• 55 hours of continuing education every 2 years, including 4 hours of ethics
• All 55 CE hours can be earned online
• Renewal Date: 2 year on issuance date

Beginning January 1, 2020 - all applicants for initial licensure or license renewal in Maine shall demonstrate a one-time successful completion of a minimum of 12 hours of coursework in family or intimate partner violence. The coursework may be fulfilled through course work provided through contact hours, internet hours (such as through AtHealth.com) or distance learning programs as evidenced by certification from an accredited educational institution or equivalent teaching or practice experience.

The following courses should apply to the Intimate Partner Violence requirement:

• Domestic Violence: Intimate Partner Abuse (7 hours)
• Domestic Violence: Counseling Clients Involved with Violent Intimate Partners (2 hours)
• Criminal Justice Assessments: Sex Offenders & Intimate Partner Violence (2 hours)
• Anger Management for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Clients - A Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Manual (2 hours)
• Enhancing Treatment Compliance Among Male Batterers (1 hour)
• Understanding and Addressing Criminal Thinking (1.5 hours)
• Domestic Violence for Mental Health Professionals (8 hours)
• Preventing Intimate Partner Violence Across the Lifespan: A Technical Package of Programs, Policies, and Practices (3 hours)

ME professional counselors can earn 55 of their CE credits online through athealth.com.
