Dr. Howard Liddle, a nationally recognized family psychologist and Director of the University of Miami Center for Treatment Research on Adolescent Substance Abuse, discusses recent developments in adolescent substance abuse treatment. Topics include evidence-based treatments, trends in adolescent drug use, how to establish a therapeutic alliance with a teenager, and protecting teens from alcohol and drug use. Dr. Liddle uses a case example to address risk factors, therapeutic windows of opportunity, and ways to engage the adolescent.

Author Bio

Howard A. Liddle, EdD, a nationally recognized family psychologist who specializes in adolescent substance abuse. Dr. Liddle is Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology and Director of the University of Miami Center for Treatment Research on Adolescent Drug Abuse.

Dr. Liddle is an editorial board member of numerous scientific journals, including the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, the Journal of Child and Adolescent Substance Abuse,Family Process, and the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy. His research has been recognized with career achievement awards from the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Family Therapy Academy, the American Psychological Association, and the Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
