Attention: Several states and disciplines have relaxed requirements regarding live / in person Continuing Education due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please check with your board to see the most current requirements.
Licensed professional counselors in Illinois (LPC, LCPC) are required to take:
- Thirty (30) hours of continuing education every 2 years, all of which can be taken online through approved CE Providers.
- All clinical professional counselors are also required to complete eighteen (18) hours in clinical supervision. This is a one-time requirement.
- Renewal Date: 3/31 of odd years
- Administrative Code for Renewal Requirements.

CE Requirements for both LPCs and LCPCs:
- Sexual Harassment Prevention: 1 hour every 2 years
- Implicit Bias: 1 hour every 2 years
- Mandated Reporter: 1 hour every 3 years
- Alzheimer's Awareness: 1 hour every 6 years (for those working with adults 26+)
- Cultural Competence: 1 hour every 6 years (effective January 1, 2025)
- Ethics: 3 hours every 2 years (starting with second renewal)

For LCPCs Only:
- Clinical Supervision: 9 hours one-time requirement (due by second renewal)
CE Approvals:
The Illinois Board accepts courses from NBCC approved providers. At Health, LLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6949. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. At Health, LLC is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.Illinois LPCs and LCPCs can earn all thirty (30) CE credits online through athealth.com.
