CE requirements for Oregon addiction counselors:
Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor I (CADC I)
Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor II (CADC II)
Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor III (CADC III)
- Must earn 40 clock hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years
- Must include 6 hours of ethics
- Must include 2 hours of tobacco dependence/prevention continuing education
Category I: Must have a minimum of 20 hours in alcohol and drug treatment, treatment planning, dual diagnosis, counseling methodologies focusing on substance abuse, relapse prevention, ASAM, methadone, ATOD prevention, ethics, etc. All 40 hours can be Category I.
Category II: Maximum of 20 hours in managed care, trauma counseling, psychiatric disorders, social work course work, behavioral health software training, ethics
Certified Gambling Addictions Counselor (CGACI)
Certified Gambling Addictions Counselor (CGACII)
- Must earn 40 clock hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years
Category I: Must have a minimum of 20 hours related to gambling topics. All 40 hours can be gambling specific.
Category II: Maximum of 20 hours in managed care, counseling survivors of trauma, psychiatric disorders, general college psychology coursework, social work coursework, general behavioral health software training, etc.
Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM)
- Must earn 20 clock hours of CE, including 6 hours of ethics
- The board accepts specific addiction and recovery courses and ethics courses
Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS)
- Must earn 40 clock hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years
- Must include 6 hours of ethics
CE Approvals
Addiction Counselor Certification Board of Oregon accepts online courses from NAADAC approved education providers.
