Author Bio

Michael J Chaple

Dr. Chaple received his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University. Prior to his transition to NYSPI in May 2019, Dr. Chaple held a dual appointment as the Executive Director of the Training Institute (TI) and Director of the Center for the Integration of Research and Practice (CIRP) at the National Development & Research Institutes (NDRI), Inc. where he has worked for the past 20 years. He serves as Principal Investigator and Director of the New York, New Jersey and Caribbean Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC), part of a major national effort by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to promote the implementation of evidence-based prevention and treatment strategies into widespread community practice. Through his work, Dr. Chaple has gained considerable expertise in applied research consisting of efficacy and effectiveness trials, including implementation science, as well as large-scale training and technical assistance initiatives designed to disseminate evidence-based and promising practices.

Joseph R. Madonia, LCSW-R, CASAC

 

Is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Addiction Specialist with over 25 years of experience in the field. Through a cognitive behavioral treatment approach, he provides his patients with a safe, trusting and comfortable environment that allows them the space to reflect, process and strategize ways to enhance their lives to live to their fullest potential.

He currently serves on the faculty of the NYU Graduate School of Social Work as a Clinical Professor and Advisor, and also provides clinical supervision to those clinicians seeking N.J./N.Y.S. licensure. He also works very closely with the N.J. and N.Y.S. court system to assist those clients who are justice involved.

For the past 15 years He has served as the Director for one of the leading Drug and Mental Health courts in the Nation. He also developed, designed and operated the first DWI, Veterans and Co-Occurring Mental Health treatment courts in Brooklyn NY.

He is a graduate of New York University and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. He holds several degrees and certifications including Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor and Forensic Mental Health Counselor and has over 27 years experience working with the Forensic and Co-Occurring Disorders populations.

He conducts numerous professional development trainings for practicing clinicians throughout the United States and maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Wall Township N.J. and the Financial District in New York City, where he treats adolescents and young adults with substance abuse and mental health disorders.
