LCAS – Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist

CCS – Certified Clinical Supervisor

15 hours of clinical supervision training, or 12 core function training. Up to 3.75 hours may be from providing supervision to other clinicians. Fifty percent (50%) of the required clock hours can be earned online.
Initial Certification
The following information relates to the required clock hours for each initial certification. Check with the Board for any additional requirements.
Fifty percent (50%) of the required clock hours can be earned through distance learning. For example, if a counselor is required to learn 270 total clock hours, 135 of those hours can be earned online, subject to topic requirements such as ethics, substance abuse and veterans, etc.
CSAC – Certified Substance Abuse Counselor
NC - initial certification requirements for substance abuse counselors
For initial certification: Counselors must take 270 clock hours of training. One hundred ninety (190) hours must be substance abuse specific. Fifty percent (50%) can be earned online. Hours must include 6 hours of HIV/AIDS/BB/STD/Infectious Disease, 6 hours of ethics, and 6 hours in a) nicotine dependence, b) substance abuse in veterans, c) substance abuse in older adults, d) psychopathology, and/or e) evidence based treatment approaches.

For initial certification: LCASs must take 180 hours of training that are substance abuse specific, including 6 hours HIV/AIDS/BB/STD, 6 hours of ethics, 6 hours of clinical supervision specific training, and 6 hours in a) nicotine dependence, b) substance abuse in veterans, c) substance abuse in older adults, d) psychopathology, and/or e) evidence based treatment approaches.
CCS - Certified Clinical Supervisor

This is not a standalone credential. For initial certification: Must have 30 hours of clinical supervisory specific education.
CSAPC - Certified Substance Abuse Prevention Consultant
NC - initial certification requirements for CSAPC
For initial certification: CSAPCs must take 270 hours of board approved training as follows: 170 hours in the area of primary prevention; and 100 hours in substance abuse specific material which includes 6 hours in HIV/AIDS training and 3 hours in professional prevention ethics training. All hours must pertain to the IC&RC Performance Domains.
