There are two different entities that require continuing education (CE) for renewal:
Certified Addictions Treatment Counselors (CATC):
Certified Addictions Treatment Counselors (CATC) in California must obtain 40 (TAP 21) CEU hours every 2 years, including 9 hours of addiction-specific law and ethics.
California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP)
Certified Alcohol and/or Drug Counselors are required to obtain 50 hours of continuing education (CEH’s) toward renewal of certification.
- A minimum of 40 hours related to alcohol and drug counseling and treatment, including 6 hours in ethics
- The remaining 10 hours can be taken in other areas of professional development
CE Approvals
The California Association for Drug/Alcohol Educators accepts courses from providers approved by NAADAC. At Health, LLC is approved as a continuing education provider by the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) Provider #148460.Certified alcohol and/or drug counselors can earn 40 of their professional development hours online with athealth.comÂ
