A licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in Texas must complete 30 hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years, including a minimum of 6 credit hours in ethics. Of the 30 clock hours required for LMFT license renewal, no more than 15 clock hours may be delivered through a learning format that does not accommodate real-time interaction, such as self-study correspondence course or pre-recorded webinar.
A licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT Associate) in Texas must complete 15 hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years, including a minimum of 6 credit hours in ethics. Of the 15 clock hours required for LMFT Associate license renewal, no more than six clock hours may be delivered through a learning format that does not accommodate real-time interaction, such as self-study correspondence course or pre-recorded webinar.

CE Approval
At Health meets the requirements set forth by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists for Continuing Education (Section 801.264).To be acceptable for the purposes of license renewal or satisfaction of disciplinary stipulations, the education must be received from a CE provider that:
- ensures the education provided is related to the practice of marriage and family therapy
- ensures the individual(s) presenting the information have the necessary experience and knowledge in the topic(s) presented
- verifies attendance of participants and provides participants with a letter or certificate of attendance displaying the licensee's name, topic covered, date course was taken, and hours of credit earned
- maintains all CE records and documentation for at least 3 years
- provides participants a mechanism for evaluation of each CE activity
