Description

This four-part series led by Christopher Huffine, PsyD, provides a clinical framework for identifying and managing domestic violence (DV) and intimate partner violence (IPV). The program moves beyond physical abuse to address the psychological belief systems of both survivors and perpetrators, specifically focusing on the role of anger as a tool for control rather than a simple loss of emotional regulation.

Throughout the course, participants will learn to differentiate between common misconceptions and evidence-based realities of DV. The curriculum covers specialized screening techniques to detect victimization and the identification of high-danger lethality markers. Attendees will learn to apply general guidelines for intervening with both abused and abusive partners, including the delivery of specific tools for non-abusive behavior and the creation of comprehensive safety plans for clients in high-risk situations.

Dr. Huffine is joined by Jennifer Hopkinson, LCSW for the safety planning portion of this program.

Chris Huffine, Psy.D. is the Executive Director of Allies in Change. He offers individual and couples counseling with adults on a variety of issues including mood disorders, stress management, relationship/intimacy issues, and addictions. He is an adjunct faculty member at Portland State University where he teaches an anger management class and speaks on domestic violence. He also offers a graduate level class on domestic violence at Pacific University. He regularly speaks publicly and offers trainings on a variety of issues related to domestic violence.
