Beginning January 1, 2015, Kentucky's certified or licensed, mental health professionals are required to complete a training program in suicide assessment, treatment, and management - and they must repeat this at least once every six (6) years.
Those required to complete the training include the following professionals; alcohol and drug counselors, marriage and family therapists, occupational therapists, pastoral counselors, professional counselors, psychologists, social workers. The intent of the Kentucky law is to help you to sharpen your clinical skills. When you complete our course you will listen more intently to your patients for clues of suicidality and you will feel more comfortable treating those who are at risk for self-harm.
