Feeding Assessment and Intervention

Do you work with kids on the “preschool diet”? In other words, eating mostly white and brown foods, with little variation or color? Maybe you work with kids with more serious medical concerns requiring a G-tube or with a diagnosis of Failure to Thrive? The realm of diet and eating can be hard to navigate, so in this interview Dr. Jeremy Sharp sits down with Dr. Lani Jones, a nationally-recognized speaker and licensed psychologist, to talk all about feeding issues in little ones. Here are just a few things that they touched on:

  • The two questions to ask in order to determine whether kids’ eating habits are “normal”
  • The process for a feeding evaluation
  • Which professionals you need to have on your referral list to make sure these kids are being supported
  • Which diagnoses tend to see the most overlap with feeding issues

Ethical and Legal Issues in Assessment

How many times have you run into challenging or ambiguous ethical situations and looked around your office, wishing an attorney would appear to answer all of your questions? For most, it seems countless. Dr. Amanda Zelechoski doesn’t answer ALL the questions that have ever come up, but she came really close in this engaging interview! As a dual attorney-psychologist and risk management consultant for The Trust, Dr. Zelechoski has a unique, insider’s perspective on legal and ethical concerns for psychologists (specifically for those in testing), but much of the information that she shared can be helpful to anyone practicing in the mental health field. Here are just a few topics covered in this interview:

  • Court orders vs. subpoenas
  • Test data vs. test materials – what should we release?
  • How to respond to negative online reviews
  • What client information should we share in an online forum?

The Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS)

The Rorschach has been a source of mystery and debate in our field for decades now. As someone who went through grad school at a time when the Rorschach had fallen out of favor, Dr. Sharp doesn't use it and knows very little about it. That’s why he is so grateful to talk with Dr. Joni Mihura, co-author/developer of the Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS).

The R-PAS has come to be regarded as the most current set of norms and administration guidelines for the Rorschach, and Joni shares a wealth of knowledge not only on the R-PAS but the Rorschach in general. Here are just a few things discussed in the interview:

  • The history of the Rorschach
  • The state of the Exner scoring system
  • Key differences between the comprehensive system and the R-PAS
  • Clinical utility for the Rorschach

Target audience: Psychologists, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, addiction counselors, nurses.

  • The CEDAR Clinic’s standard battery for assessing psychotic symptoms
  • Treatment recommendations for high-risk individuals
