Continuing Education for New Jersey Alcohol and Drug Counselors

Attention: Several states and disciplines have relaxed requirements regarding live / in person Continuing Education due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please check with your board to see the most current requirements.

CE requirements for NJ addiction counselors (LADC, MLADC, LCS, CADC, CRSW):

LADC - Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor
MLADC - Master Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor

  • 40 hours every 2 years, including 6 hours of in legal standards related to the practice of alcohol and drug counseling in New Jersey
  • 3 hours in cultural competence
  • Maximum of 20 hours of online learning

CADC - Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor

  • 60 hours every 2 years, including 6 hours in legal standards related to the practice of alcohol and drug counseling in New Jersey
  • 3 hours in cultural competence
  • Maximum of 30 hours of online learning

LCS - Licensed Clinical Supervisor

  • 40 hours every 2 years per above LADC requirements, including 6 hours of training in clinical supervision

CRSW - Certified Recovery Support Worker

  • 12 hours every 2 years

3-Hour Legal Standards Course – Deferment for the 2022-2024 Renewal
At its public meeting on December 20, 2019, the Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee voted to delay the effective date of requirement in N.J.A.C. 13:34C-5.2(d) that all LCADCs and CADCs complete the 3 hours in legal standards course.  Licensees and certificate holders will be required to demonstrate completion of the 3 credit course to renew for the 2022-2024 biennial period.  Licensees and certificates holders will not be required to complete the course for the upcoming 2020 renewal.

CE Approvals

New Jersey Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee accepts courses from NAADAC approved providers. At Health, LLC is approved as a continuing education provider by the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) Provider #148460.
