Continuing Education for Louisiana Professional Counselors

Attention: Several states and disciplines have relaxed requirements regarding live / in person Continuing Education due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please check with your board to see the most current requirements.

CE requirements for LA professional counselors (LPC):

  • 40 clock hours of CE every 2 years, including 3 hours in ethics and 6 hours in diagnosis under DSM-5
  • Board approved supervisors must earn 3 clock hours in supervision as part of the 40 required hours for renewal
  • Maximum of 20 hours can be earned online
  • Maximum of 10 hours can be obtained through homestudy (ex. video presentations)

CE Approvals:

The Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners accepts courses from NBCC approved providers. At Health, Inc. is approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6949. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. At Health, Inc. is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

Continuing education that is approved by either the American Counseling Association (ACA), its divisions, regions, and state branches, Louisiana Counseling Association (LCA), or the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) is considered 'pre-approved' and will be accepted by the Board of Examiners.  See Chapter 7, Section 707 of Professional Occupational Standards to learn about CE approval that is not pre-approved by the board.
