CE requirements for LA professional counselors (LPC):
- 40 clock hours of CE every 2 years
- Of the 40 clock hours of continuing education, 3 clock hours must be accrued in ethics, 3 hours must be accrued in social and cultural foundations, and 6 clock hours must be accrued in diagnosis (assessment, diagnosis, and treatment under the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5, as published by the American Psychiatric Association)
- A board-approved supervisor must accrue 3 clock hours (of the required 40 clock hours of continuing education) in supervision.
- Maximum of 20 hours can be earned online
- Maximum of 10 hours can be obtained through homestudy (ex. video presentations)
- Renewal Date: Every 2 year in June

Continuing education that is approved by either the American Counseling Association (ACA), its divisions, regions, and state branches, Louisiana Counseling Association (LCA), or the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) is considered 'pre-approved' and will be accepted by the Board of Examiners. See Chapter 7, Section 707 of Professional Occupational Standards to learn about CE approval that is not pre-approved by the board.
