Continuing Education for Louisiana Professional Counselors

CE requirements for LA professional counselors (LPC):

• 40 clock hours of CE every 2 years
• Of the 40 clock hours of continuing education, 3 clock hours must be accrued in ethics, 3 hours must be accrued in social and cultural foundations, and 6 clock hours must be accrued in diagnosis (assessment, diagnosis, and treatment under the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5, as published by the American Psychiatric Association)
• A board-approved supervisor must accrue 3 clock hours (of the required 40 clock hours of continuing education) in supervision.
• Maximum of 20 hours can be earned online
• Maximum of 10 hours can be obtained through homestudy (ex. video presentations)
• Renewal Date: Every 2 year in June

CE Approvals:

The Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners accepts courses from NBCC approved providers. At Health, LLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6949. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. At Health, LLC is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

Continuing education that is approved by either the American Counseling Association (ACA), its divisions, regions, and state branches, Louisiana Counseling Association (LCA), or the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) is considered 'pre-approved' and will be accepted by the Board of Examiners.  See Chapter 7, Section 707 of Professional Occupational Standards to learn about CE approval that is not pre-approved by the board.
